First let me say I've read this author before so I knew that there would be a lot of sex and that doesn't bother me as long as it's got a good storyline and characters I like. Unfortunately this book didn't. I thought the plot sounded interesting but it got so convoluted and ridiculous I spent more time rolling my eyes and saying you've got to be kidding me then I did reading. Zoren was okay and I was interested in the whole symbiot storyline but Abby was just silly and so unbelievable.SPOILERS: When Abby finds a spaceship and Zoran she shows no fear at all. In fact she understands immediately that the ship is really alive and needs comfort as well. Then she finds Zoran and again no fear, she doesn't even question bringing him to her house to take care of him. Not only is there no fear but really no surprise. Oh hey look an alien and his sentient ship crashed on the mountain. Then he wakes up and even though she can't speak his language they have sex, did I mention she was a virgin before this. On top of that, it's pretty rough sex and she just has to have it. But that's okay because they are in love. No idea how they got that way since they just met and oh yeah she doesn't understand anything he says because she doesn't speak his language. Then because apparently the author didn't think a symbiot was enough he was also a dragon shifter. At the point where he was breathing "Dragon Fire" into Abby during sex so she could be "taken by his dragon" too I couldn't take it anymore.
I hardly ever quit a book before I finish it but this was just terrible. The romance, the characters and the plot were ridiculous. The characters were never developed so I really didn't care what happened to them. The romance was so unbelievable, who falls in love in 24 hours within someone you can't even have a conversation with. The sex came way to quickly especially since Abby was supposed to be a sweet, innocent virgin. The dialogue was preposterous. I haven't even mentioned the horrible editing and the tell not show writing.
Overall, this was a waste of money and my time.

Abducting Abby Science Fiction Romance Dragon Lords of Valdier Book 1 eBook SE Smith Reviews
When you get about a quarter of the way thru it turns into the same old sex acts. I used to read Playboy magazines and never ran into this much dirty talk. I finally turned to the end of the book to see if there was anything new and I'm glad I did because I found that there was no ending, only a request that you waste your money buying book two. This author says she writes books for kids and young adults....I hope that she doesn't think that this is for that age group.
51% of reviews for this book are 5-Star. That would generally be enough to say it's at least very good but having read some of these reviews, I am not sure if I read the same book. .
I received this book free as many first books in a series are. The idea of course is that you enjoy the first book and are then willing to pay for subsequent books. Great idea because if you don't like it, then you don't waste your money. Unfortunately, I ended up feeling I paid too much for this book. The storyline has potential but the story was non-existent in this book. Take out the explicit sex passages (almost every page in the second half of the book) and you have nothing. Even the part of the book that the title 'Abducting Abby' actually relates to is only about 20 pages long and over before you realise it happened - almost as if the author got to the end of the book and realised there hadn't been an Abduction and quickly inserted a few pages at the end to give the title meaning.
I have read some good SciFi, and I have read some bad SciFi in the 50 years since I was introduced to Science Fiction in my youth and I can honestly say that I can't remember reading/skimming one that was worse.
If you want to read good Science Fiction, give this one a miss. From now on, I will just read the 1 & 2 star reviews since the 5-star ones can't be trusted.
I won't review the story for you. The synopsis is pretty straight forward. Lets just get to the review
The Good
GREAT and Interesting Story. Loved the plot and storyline. I lived the heroine. She was realistic and three dimensional. There was none of that...."I've found love and now I'm happy to throw out everything else for you" mentality that makes a woman look like a carpet. Yay. The world building and culture...I liked it a lot and enjoyed the creativity. The story showed an originality that I miss and the conflict was real with Abby having to leave behind her world and how she dealt with it.
The Bad
Inconsistent things in the story. One example...Abby is blonde. This is described in the story...blonde. If there is any doubt about that, then there is always the cover on the book that clearly shows her blonde hair. Somewhat annoying when she all of a sudden has dark hair. Did she dye it? If so...please...don't leave that scene out. Otherwise I'm a little frustrated that the author can't pay enough attention to detail to keep a character blonde.
The Ugly
The editing. I'm not an editor and I'm not an English major and I grew really frustrated with the editing. In places it is the wrong tense and just odd. Here are some examples from the book "They did not returned to the palace until the next day" then there is the word usage "She was trying in vain to stubbly move away from where he had been rubbing his fingers along her shoulder". Stubbly...I'm assuming that wasn't the actual word the writer meant to write. I should add that in this paragraph alone "had" was used more than 10 times. Really? No other way to word that? I should also add that the writer didn't seem to grasp the difference between "to" and "too". Why am I buying a book and reading it if the writer or editor can't take the time to read it themselves. Surely had they actually read through it they would have noticed a few of these things. The book is littered with them.
Conclusion I bought the second book in the series....Why? Because it is an awesome story line and I was interested. Be warned. I'm 16% through Capturing Cara and already I've come across more of the editing issues. Examples you ask? "Ariel said added." looks like someone meant to change 'said' to 'added' but sadly, because no one read through it for review it was never corrected. I could give you 3 more right now for the current book but I'm sure you get the point.
S.E. Smith I love the story enough to get the 2nd book despite your editing issues. If you are tired of reading your own book, send me an ARC. I'll read through with a "red pen" and fix the problems. But PLEASE PLEASE don't ruin a great story with bad editing on the next book. Your world-building and imagination are a joy to read. The editing on it isn't. Take the money that you deserve to receive for writing a great story and hire a professional editor before you put out your next book.
